2025 TORREY PINES SOUTH COURSE TO HOST 2025 GENESIS INVITATIONAL

2025 Genesis Invitational will be played over San Diego’s Torrey Pines’ famed South Course  due to Los Angeles’ fire disasters surrounding Riviera Country Club, Pacific Palisades.

The renown South Course has hosted the 2008 and 2021 US Opens plus annually since 1968 it is home to the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open. Over hilly terrain fronting the blue Pacific,  this spectacular championship layout stretches 7802 yds, par-72, with Tiger Woods holding the “Old”  course (1999) record 62, “new” course  record is 63 by sultan69 Greg Chalmers (2002)

The PGA Tour, TGR Live, Genesis, and Riviera Country Club hosted by Tiger Woods have committed to  feature a variety of relief initiatives focusing on relief for the epic 2025 Los Angeles area fire disasters.

Woods emphasized “We are looking forward to playing another championship caliber golf course this year while Riviera remains the home of the Genesis Invitational, using the tournament to support those affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area. Genesis President Jose Munoz emphasized Genesis looks forward to using this broad platform of 2025 Genesis Invitational to help with meaningful support for relief and recovery efforts.  We are most grateful to San Diego and Torrey Pines for hosting the tournament, PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan emphasized how grateful the Tour and all were to San Diego and Torrey Pines for extending the invitation to relocate the tournament. Todd Gloria, San Diego Mayor looks forward to helping our Los Angeles neighbors in recovery from the devasting wildfires.

The Genesis Invitational should return to Riviera Country Club in 2026.

To the east of Paris, where Marne-la-Vallée unfolds, the Golf de Bussy-Guermantes is far more than a collection of fairways and shimmering water hazards. It is, above all, a place of growth and transmission. The club has set itself a clear mission: to nurture, encourage, and refine young golfers, transforming its course into a true field of expression.















Training and Inspiring





At the heart of the project lies the Junior Academy, an essential pillar of the club. Children aged 4 to 18 develop their game within groups suited to their age and level, blending play, discipline, and sporting spirit.
But here, more than just swings are shaped — values are sown: respect, camaraderie, and passion. They take root in every shot played, every competition contested, every horizon glimpsed from the green.

The young players are not confined to the practice area. From an early age, they are invited onto the course — to test their first swings against the terrain, to learn how to read a hole, and to build an intimate relationship with the golfing landscape.
This transition from the range to the course is a rite of passage: it turns intention into movement, vision into strategy, and dream into path.





The club’s pride shines through the careers of its former juniors who became professionals — Grégory Havret, François Calmels, Romain Wattel, Charles-Édouard Russo, among others.
A striking testament that Bussy’s approach to teaching goes beyond instruction — it becomes a springboard.





As each young golfer progresses, the Academy guides them forward — toward club teams, toward tournaments, toward the belief that a future can indeed be built to the rhythm of the fairways.










Franck Schmid: Between Guide and Coach





At the head of the teaching division, Franck Schmid, Head Pro, embodies the spirit of transmission.
More than an instructor, he is a mentor — for over a decade, he has been teaching golfers of all levels, from beginners to competitors, relying on modern technologies — video analysis, swing tools — to refine every movement.





Convinced that a good swing is born less from strength than from clarity of intent, he helps players understand what they must think before they strike.
Diagnostics, visual feedback, and demanding pedagogy: he guides as much as he trains, placing understanding at the very heart of progress.





As a reference for the club’s youth teams — notably the U16 boys and girls competing in the French Championships— he supports course reconnaissance, advises on tactical decisions, and oversees competitions, always with the same meticulous attention to detail.










The Course as a Testing Ground





Originally designed by Charles Allison, a historic figure in British golf architecture, the course proudly bears this British influence, where design prevails over artifice: broad perspectives, subtly contoured greens, and a reading of play that reveals itself progressively as one advances.

For many years composed of 18 holes, the estate underwent a natural extension about fifteen years ago, bringing the total to 27 holes.
The two current courses — La Jonchère (18 holes) and La Gondoire (9 holes) — form a coherent whole: the 9-hole layout is not a mere annex, but a preserved and reimagined section of the original design, offering a shorter format without compromising the spirit of the place.





Bussy captivates through its clear yet nuanced architecture, both welcoming to leisure golfers and challenging for low handicaps.
Water hazards punctuate the course with restraint, doglegs invite reflection, and the greens — often slightly elevated — demand a delicate touch.
Everything here is designed so that each player can find their own ideal trajectory — never imposed, always suggested.

The course lies on semi-clay soil, typical of the eastern Paris region.
While it can feel softer in the heart of winter, it remains remarkably playable throughout most of the year, thanks to meticulous maintenance and constant attention to surface quality.
The greens stay smooth and true, the fairways carefully groomed, and the course retains that healthy, natural character that defines its identity.





Neither brutal nor ostentatious, Bussy-Guermantes cultivates a rare sense of balance and precision: a course to be discovered rather than conquered — a landscape of harmony and enjoyment, true to the tradition of golf designed, above all, for the game itself.




















In the background, the club offers a comprehensive practice area — covered driving range, putting and pitching greens — but it is often around its restaurant, La Terrasse, that the pleasure of the game continues.

At Pessac, water is never far away. It flows through the 18-hole course, but also the 9-hole, the compact, and even the practice area. Architecture in Service of the Game





Designed by architect Olivier Brizon, the course benefits from sandy soil, making it one of the few in the region playable year-round. The subtly elevated greens provide excellent natural drainage and maintain quality roll despite a modest maintenance team. While it doesn’t claim the rigor of a private championship course, Pessac strikes a rare balance between accessibility and technical challenge, offering remarkable value just outside Bordeaux.

Families, learners, and seasoned golfers alike will find a terrain both varied and lively.

Our Visit to Pessac





For Octobre Rose (Breast Cancer Awareness Month), we played the 18-hole course with Aude Bredel, founder of GolfHer. Together we took on the blue tees, aiming to beat the channel’s record (-3 over 9 holes). Already superb in its everyday form, Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche knows how to transcend itself when a great event approaches — rising to the highest ranks of world golf. To host the Open de France 2025, the estate has taken on its most solemn expression, unveiling the legendary composite course in its finest condition. Nothing is left to chance: fairways tightened, tees pushed back, bunkers reshaped, greens expanded and firmed after months of meticulous preparation. Every detail contributes to transforming this mythical venue into a timeless stage for championship golf.





GolfStars had the privilege of following this extraordinary preparation alongside the greenkeeping team. This is their story.















The Composite Course: Concentrated Challenge





This is no improvisation — it’s the historic composite layout of the Trophée Lancôme, revived exceptionally for the Open de France. While most national competitions, such as the French Team Championships, use only the Red Course, Saint-Nom calls upon its most formidable configuration for the world’s elite:





    

  • Holes 1–7 Blue to open the test,
    • 




  • Holes 17–18 Red as treacherous traps,
    • 




  • Holes 1–9 Red as the backbone of the event.
    • 






A mythical sequence — a condensed version of golf’s finest challenges, where some of the most memorable moments in French golf history were written.










Secrets of a Championship Course

Under the guidance of Laurent Murail, the course underwent a profound transformation. A graduate of Dunkerque’s first turf management class in 1986, Murail embodies France’s long tradition of greenkeeping excellence. His philosophy is simple yet uncompromising:







“I don’t want them to love me — that’s why we’ve made it harder,” he says with a grin.







For Murail, the goal is as symbolic as it is technical: to bring the game closer to its essence.





    

  • Narrower fairways, longer tees: tighter landing zones demanding both power and accuracy.
    • 




  • Widened greens and approaches: paradoxically less forgiving — every misjudged shot ends on a firm, shaved run-off, transformed into a springboard of punishment.
    • 




  • Redesigned bunkers: in reshaping them, the team uncovered the original stakes, reviving the artistry of the club’s golden age.
    • 







Hole 14, HCP 1 – Usually a par 5, now converted into a 444-metre par 4, narrowed and equipped with a severely sloped green whose edges are exceptionally slick and unforgiving.





Two holes epitomize this precision test:










Hole 18 – Par 3, 191m downhill: its hardened surrounds repel all but the perfect shot, sending misses tumbling into sand or water.





Here, the game is stripped to its truth: little room for error, much room for courage and control.










An Army in the Shadows










Normally twenty strong, the grounds team grew to 65 members for the event — a mix of local club staff, technical reinforcements, and students from the Dunkerque school, proud to take part in this living classroom of excellence.







“The credit isn’t mine,” says Murail. “It’s my team’s.”







A united group that learns, shares, and rises together under the pressure of the Open.

A Major-Scale Operation





Around the course, DP World Tour teams handle the logistics: grandstands, camera towers, media zones, and hospitality villages. A temporary city takes shape — each module with its role, each detail carefully orchestrated. A weeks-long effort, invisible to spectators but vital to the show.
